Puya Alpestris

There are no other plants quite Puya alpestris. The flower is truly spectacular.

Metallic Sapphire blue petals are colored in a unique shade distinct from the average plant flower.

Due to the shear width and height of the flower spike it is sometimes known as the sapphire tower.

The base foliage only grows to around 50 cm the flower stem may add a further meter in height. The foliage is silver grey and spiky.

Though bromeliads are typically forest plants this species is an arid climate variety. This plant can endure heat up to 38 degrees Celsius.

It is an ideal bromeliad to place in the full sun and will survive with little water once established. Part shade is also suitable for Puya alpestrus. Overall a stunning drought resistant plant.
